Civil Process

Civil Process is the service of court papers such as summons, subpoenas, garnishments, civil suits, small claims filings, ex-parte and order of protections, evictions notices, replevin orders, juvenile papers, or any other document to be served for court purposes. Missouri law requires the sheriff to perform civil process unless a private process server has been appointed or another option is permitted by the court.

In Harrison County we typically serve between 1200 to 1800 court papers a year. Missouri Law requires certain fees on civil process being $30.00 per paper on Civil summons, Notices, Court Orders, Garnishments, Motions, and Eviction Notices. The fee is $20.00 for Subpoenas and there is no fee on Criminal Summons, Orders of Protection or Notices of Hearings. For civil process served within the city limits of Bethany, there is no mileage charge.

Being a small organization we incorporate our civil service into our investigations and patrol in Harrison County. We do so in order to be productive and maximize our time as quite often people are not home on the first, second and or even the third attempt for service. Summons can be given to anyone at the residence above 13 years of age.
